Seekkuge Prasanna’s Hattrick seals Northern Warriors’ win

The 4th day of the Army Commanders League was worked out today, 10th October 2020 at Dombagoda Sri Lanka Army Ordinance Corps Ground, as the Southern Warriors and Northern Warriors managed to win their respective matches.  

Eastern Warriors v Southern Warriors 

The skipper of Southern Warriors, Dinesh Chandimal won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Southern Warriors bowlers responded perfectly to their captain’s decision to bowl first by restricting the opponent for just 112 runs. National caps Kusal Mendis and Asela Gunaratne made 20s in addition to wicket-keeper batsman Pathum Dilshan’s 32run knock but Shehada de Zoysa and Suminada Lakshan led Southern Warriors bowling attack managed to keep them quiet.

Chasing a below-par 113 to win, Southerners reached the target in the 18th over with just 4 wickets down. Skipper Chandimal starred with the bat again with a quickfire 38.

Seekkuge Prasanna had the luck with him again for the 4th consecutive time as he decided to bat first against Western Warriors. 

Northern Warriors XI – Seekkuge Prasanna (C), Dasun Shanaka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Ashan Randika, Shihan de Silva, Heshan Hettiarachchi, Janaka Sampath, Tharindu Kaushal, Dilshan Madushanka, Vinod Perera, Shehan Fernando 

Western Warriors XI – Thisara Perera (C), Avishka Fernando, Dhammika Prasad, Lakshan Edirisinghe, Samitha Wanigasekara, Pathum Kumara, Harshajith Virendra, Yashoda Mendis, Gayan Chandraboos, Sachin Thilakarathna, Maheesh Theekshana 

After a devastating loss in the previous game, Northern Warriors came back all guns blazing against the Western Warriors as the opener Ashan Randika led the attack with a blistering half-century. National caps Seekkuge Prasanna and Dasun Shanaka also contributed with rapid 30s.

Reply innings of Western Warriors was ambushed by opposition skipper Seekkuge Prasanna’s hat-trick and the Westerners couldn’t recover from that point (from 2 for 96 to 5 96).

S Wanigasekara made a gutsy half-century but his efforts were in vain as Northerners secured their 2nd win of the tournament.
