Sri Lanka has been selected as the host for global qualifier event for 2021 Women’s World Cup which will be held in 2020 for the 5th occassion.
This is the 2nd consecutive time Sri Lanka has been chosen for the 10-team event; last time Sri Lanka successfully hosted this event in 2017, India emerged winners.
This competition’s top 3 teams will qualify for the World’s premier event with the 5 countries who qualified via the ICC Women’s Championship 2017-20 making the total of 8 teams at the 2021 Women’s World Cup.

Sri Lanka are certain to play in the Qualifier event since they can’t directly make it to the top 5 teams of the ICC Women’s Championship 2017-20 as they have lost 14 out of their 15 matches so far.

The Zimbabwe Cricket Board is currently suspended by ICC and their national cricket team in not permitted to participate in ICC events. So, an alternative African qualifier may be announced by ICC in the near future. (Namibia were the runners-up of the Africa qualifier)
