Royal College, Colombo came back from a goal down to beat Kingswood College, Kandy 2-1 in the opening fixture of group “A” in The Papare U20 Football Championship played at Cooray Park, Colombo.

Royal College, Colombo hosted Kingswood College, Kandy in the first game of The Papare U20 football championship 2019. Shishan Prabudda converted the winning penalty kick to give Royal 3 points.

Kingswood started positively and looked to take control of the game in the early exchanges. Royal College too went toe to toe to make a match of the proceedings.

The first half ended 0-0 with both teams not taking chances that came their way, Kingswood having major share of the procession and Royal going on the counter.

The second half was a more entertaining affair as Kingswood took an early lead in the 49th minute when Mohamed Insham pounced on a rebound from Royal keeper Mohamed Asad. K.V Sulakshana, making the initial shot from an acute angle after a good take down of the ball.

Royal responded almost immediately to equalize. Usman Ahamed was in the right position when Kingswood keeper V.B Rathnayaka fluffed a collection and gave Ahamed an empty net to slot the ball.

With the game tied, both teams went on to find a winner. Royal got the better of Kingswood’s defense in the 68th minute when N.S. Sudar was brought down in the box when he smartly beat his marker.

Sri Lanka U19 Captain Shishan Prabudda stepped up and converted calm to give Royal the goal and assured the 3 points.
