18 of the best and toughest athletes will wear the Lion on their chests for the upcoming World Military Games 2019, scheduled to take place from the 18th to the 27th of October in Wuhan, China.

While the National Sports Festival for athletics is fast approaching, these 18 athletes will look forward to bigger priorities at the World Military Games where they will hope to bring home some medals ahead of the South Asian Games.

14 of these athletes will be representing the Sri Lanka Army; Top performers at this years’ National meet, Vidusha Lakshani, Himasha Eshan, Aruna Darshana and Nilani Rathnayake will be key additions to the team.

Sri Lanka Army will also field Greshan Dhananjaya, Prasad Wimalasiri and Sarangi Silva from the Triple and Long Jump, Nadeesha Ramanayake from 800m, Sumedha Ranasinghe and Nadeeka Lakmali from the Javelin, Upamalika Rathnakumari from the 400m, Chanuka Sandeepa, Mohommed Safan and Fazil Udayar from the 100m and 200m short distance disciplines.

Gayanthika Abeyrathne will join the team representing the Sri Lanka Navy for the long-distance event. Nimali Liyanarachchi, Tharika Fernando and 2019’s Pole Vault National champ Ishara Sandaruwan will cap the team, representing the Sri Lanka Air Force.
