Unremitting weather hurts domestic cricket

Weather gods disrupted all the Premier Limited Overs Tournament 2014/15 matches scheduled on 11th December and only one game produced a result due to overnight rain and evening showers.

SSC vs Ragama

Sinhalese Sports Club registered a morale-boosting 11-run win over Ragama CC at SSC grounds in the only match which produced a result on Thursday. 

In a game rescheduled for 34 overs per side, SSC posted 197 all out in 33.4 overs. Skipper and opener Dimuth Karunarathne top-scored for the hosts with 73 runs in 80 balls and his innings consists of 9 fours and 2 sixes. Kaushal Silva and Tharanga Paranavithana chipped in with 41 runs each.  Left-arm fast bowler Nilanka Premarathne captured 5 wickets for 37 runs.

Chasing a stiff target to win, Ragama got off to a promising start with their 19-year old former Peterite opener Janith Liyanage stroking a fabulous 54 runs in 63 balls but Ragama was behind the D/L par score when bad light brought a premature end to the game.

Chief Scores:

SSC – 197 all out in 33.2 overs: Dimuth Karunaratne 73, Kaushal Silva 41, Nilanka Premarathne 5/37, Amila Aponso 2/27.

Ragama – 127/5 in 25.3 overs: Janith Liyanage 54, Nilushan Nonis 29, Dilhara Fernando 2/16.

 

Colts vs NCC

Nondescript Cricket Club had to satisfy with 2 points after bad light saved Colts CC from a certain defeat as the game ended without a result at NCC grounds and the visitors too got 2 points. 

NCC after being sent into bat made a mammoth 188 for 3 in their allocated 21 overs. Left-handed batter Jehan Mubarak stroked 59 in 32 balls while Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Perera and Niroshan Dickwella chipped in with quick-fire blitz of 43*,38* and 39 respectively. 

Chasing a daunting target of 189 in 21 overs, Colts were struggling due to disciplined bowling and poor selection of shots as the visitors were only 110 for 7 in 16 overs. Bhanuka Rajapakshe was the only player to make a substantial score of 41. 

Chief Scores:

NCC – 188/3 in 21 overs: Jehan Mubarak 59*, Dinesh Chandimal 43, Niroshan Dickwella 39, Nuwan Kulasekara 2/28.

Colts – 110/7 in 16 overs: Bhanuka Rajapakshe 41, Jehan Mubarak 2/19, Sadun Weerakkody 2/26.
