Ishara Akalanka (43) and Sanjula Abeywickrama (100) top scored for Galle CC and Lankan CC, respectively, in losing causes while Ishan Nilaksha (86) guided Saracens to victory in the U 23 Division I Club tournament.

Badureliya CC vs Galle CC

Galle CC won the toss and elected to field on a gloomy morning at Surrey Village grounds. Galle CC began brightly with the ball as they picked up wickets at regular intervals and held Badureliya to a rather modest total of 180 for 9 in 36 overs in a rain hit game.

Pathum Madushanka was the top scorer for Badureliya with 34 runs which included 3 fours and a solitary 6. None of the other batsmen managed to make a telling contribution for Badureliya.

Galle CC made a hash out of their chase as they were reduced to 95 for 6 in 26 overs. Although Ishara Akalanka top scored for Galle CC with 43 runs and Chathura Lakshan, coming in at 8 made a quick fire 34 (25), they failed to carry the boys from Galle to a win as they fell short by 26 and were bundled out for 154 in 33.3 overs.

Chilaw Marians vs Lankan

Sent in to bat, Lankan CC managed a fighting 220 as Sanjula Abeywickrama made a brilliant unbeaten century (100 off 103). Abeywickrama had the support of opener Sajana Sathsara, who made a solid 41 off 78 balls, to guide the Lankan batting. Chalana De Silva was the pick of the bowlers for Chilaw Marians as he picked up 3 for 36 while Raveen Yasas (2/33) and Kasun Vidura (2/44) bagged two wickets a piece.

In reply Chilaw Marians eased their way to the target losing only 4 wickets. Rukshan Fernando made an unbeaten 89 off 93 and Risith Upamal made 50 off 81 to see Chilaw Marians home with 8 overs to spare. Madawa Fernando was the only bright spot for Lankan CC with the ball as he picked up 2 wickets for 27 runs.

Air Force SC vs Saracens

Winning the toss and batting first Air Force managed a rather mediocre total of 171 in yet another rain hit 36 over game at the Navy Grounds in Welisara. Opener Thushan Eranda top scored with 42 off 56 balls. Avishka Rathnayake made 32 off 59 balls and Dilip Tharaka made an unbeaten 29 off 21 for Air Force.

Chanaka Devinda was the pick of the bowlers for Saracens as he picked up 3 for 12 in 7 overs. Sangeeth Cooray, Shehan Madushanka and Dushan Hemantha all picked up 1 wicket each.

The Saracens’ response did not begin well as they lost Sangeeth Cooray for just 6 runs in the 4th over. Up stepped Ishan Nilaksha to score a wonderful 86 as he, along with Dushan Hemantha, who made an unbeaten run-a-ball 32, guided Saracens to victory with 4 wickets in hand. Dilip Tharaka picked up 3 for Air Force.
