The group stage of the SLC under 23 division one cricket tournament 2016 ended on a rain-hit Sunday with each team completing their 6 matches. 

Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club topped group A while Moors Sports Club won group B to qualify for the final in a fortnight. 

 

Tamil Union vs Negombo 

Rain-curtailed play on all three days as Tamil Union team had to be content with only a first-innings victory over Negombo CC at P. Sara oval grounds.

Four batsmen, Pulina Tharanga, Sithara Gimhana, Pabasara Waduge and Isuru Buddhika scored half centuries for the hosts in their mammoth first-innings total. 

Tamil Union – 361 all out in 103.4 overs: Pulina Tharanga 81, Isuru Buddika 76, Sithara Gimhana 58, Pabasara Waduge 53, Ranitha Liyanarachchi 34, Devind Padmanathan 22, Ravindu Lakmal 2/74, Nishan Peiris 4/110.

Negombo – 236 all out in 86.1 overs: Sandaruwan Rodrigo 44, Akeel Inham 34,Ravindu Lakmal 32, Shihan Dilasri 22, Pulina Tharanga 3/44, Devin Pathmanadan 2/46, Madushan Ravichandrakumar 2/41.

Ragama vs Moors

Bad weather during the course of three days ensured the all-important game ended without a result at Thurstan College grounds. 

Sri Lanka Emerging team batsman Lahiru Milantha and Saminda Maduranga top-scored for Ragama as they managed to post 274 on the board but the visitors managed only 91 for the loss of 4 wickets at close of play.

Ragama – 274 all out in 70.2 overs: Lahiru Milantha 59, Saminda Maduranga 84, Thilaksha Sumanasiri 48, Janith Liyanage 25, Sanitha De Mel 3/25, Shanuka Dulaj 3/48, Sangeeth Cooray 2/45.

CCC vs Saracens

A close low-scoring affair was won on first-innings by CCC at Maitland Crescent as Saracens looking down the barrel with a potential demotion. 

After bowling out CCC for just 91, Saracens crumbled to only 90 on the first day of play itself. Left-arm spinner Chanaka Devinda from Lumbini College captured 14 wickets in the match for Saracens. 

CCC – 91 all out in 32.5 overs: Lasith Lakshan 23, Hashan Dumindu 23, Chanaka Devinda 7/33, Poorna Aluthge 2/25.

Saracens – 90 all out in 30.5 overs: Sajeewa Salgado 38, Dulanjana Senavirathne 5/48, Shaluka Silva 5/20.

Panadura vs SL Air Force 

Panadura Sports Club clinched important first-innings points against Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club in their game ended in a draw at Katunayake.

Rohan Suresh and Harsha Salgado starred with the bat for the visitors while Lahiru Sanjaya grabbed a five-wicket haul with the ball. The Airmen have been demoted to the division two from next year.
