Heavy showers in the weekend disrupted the final in the SLC under 23 division one tournament as Moors Sports Club and Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club were crowned joint winners on Sunday at R. Premadasa Stadium. 

Play was possible only on Friday as players had to sit in the pavilion on Saturday & Sunday only to witness dark clouds and rain pouring down.

On Friday, Pabasara Waduge, skipper of Tamil Union won the toss and invited Moors to take the first lease of the wicket. Moors managed only 210 all out in 64.1 overs. Left-handed Sangeeth Cooray stroked an elegant 95. Seamer Pramod Liyanagamage captured 3 wickets while spin duo Devind Padmanathan and Pulina Tharanga managed to scalp 2 wickets each.

Tamil Union were 68 for the loss of 1 wicket when play was called-off for bad light on Friday.

After a successful group stage of 7 weeks, Moors & Tamil Union qualified to the final topping their respective groups.

Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club’s 18-year old all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga De Silva topped the batting charts scoring 523 runs in 6 matches while Navy Sports Club’s off-spinner Ashan Ranasinghe ended as the highest wicket-taker with 44 scalps in 6 games.

Tamil Union – 68/1 in 26 overs.
