Bloomfield prevail with Lahiru Madhusanka’s all-round brilliance

Four more matches of the Major Clubs T20 Tournament 2023 were held today (6th June) at SSC Grounds and CCC Grounds in Colombo, but one of them was abondoned due to wet pitch conditions.

Moors SC vs BRC

This match was to be held earlier today at SSC Grounds, but the pitch was not suitable enough for playing as the match was abandoned. However, Moors SC was able to stay at the top of the points table and they advanced to the Semi-finals as the only unbeaten side from Group D.

Ragama CC vs Colts CC

This match was also played after a rain interruption as the match was reduced to 9 overs per side, where the Colts CC registered a 8-wicket win to remain unbeaten with three wins, and almost too keen to seal their place in the Semis.

Ragama CC batted first after losing the toss and they really struggled to post something tough for their opponents to chase, only managing to add 55 runs after losing 5 wickets in their 9 overs. Chamath Gomez scored 27 unbeaten runs, while Muditha Lakshan and Udith Madushan scapled two apiece.

Colts CC chased down the target in quite an emphatic way in just 3.5 overs, courtesy of the opener Yashoda Lanka’s astonishing 13-ball 41*. It included 3 fours & 4 sixes too.

Bloomfield C & AC vs Nugegoda S & WC

Bloomfield C & AC secured their 3rd win with a 57-run win over Nugegoda S & WC today at CCC Grounds in Colombo.

After putting them to bat first, Bloomfield got to a decent total of 162/6 in their 20 overs. Lahiru Madhusanka stroked an unbeaten half-century, while Manelker De Silva scored 34. Chalana De Silva and Ranitha Liyanarachchi shared 4 wickets between them.

After an exceptional knock, Lahiru Madhusanka delivered with the ball too as he led the attack to restrict Nugegoda to 105/9 in 20 overs. Madhusanka finished his 4-over spell with a terrific 4-fer including a maiden. Apart from that, Sahan Nanayakkara also bagged a couple, while Kevin Perera scored 35 for as the top scorer for the chasing side.

Kandy Customs CC vs CCC

Colombo CC beat Kandy Customs CC by a comfortable margin of 5 wickets today at SSC Grounds in Colombo.

After having won the toss, CCC asked Kandy Customs to bat first. However, they managed to get only 122 runs for 6 wickets in their full quota of overs. Harindu Jayasekara opened the innings fir them and stroked 46 off 40 balls. On the other hand, Chamindu Wijesinghe was the star with the ball for CCC with brilliant figures of 4-1-22-3.

In the end, CCC reached the target with ease after losing only 5 wickets, with more than 5 overs to spare. Minod Bhanuka stroked 36 as their top scorer while Anjala Bandara also got 35 runs under his belt. Yohan Suresh picked 3/22, but it wasn’t enough with no support from the other end, to defend a below par score.
