Eight matches of the U19 Division 1 Schools Limited Overs Cricket Tournament were worked off yesterday (29th September) at several venues across the island.

St. Joseph’s College suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of St. Anne’s College in Kurunegala. A brilliant bowling effort led by Kevin Nanayakkara (3/14) and Kavindu Bandara (3/28) restricted the strong batting lineup of St. Joseph’s College to just 127 runs.

The boys from Kurunegala chased down the target with 5 wickets in hand as Mahima Kotuwila came up with an impressive batting performance, scoring an unbeaten 51 for St. Anne’s.

St. Peter’s College recorded their fifth straight win yesterday when they defeated Dharmapala College by 45 runs in Pannipitiya. Vishen Halambage was the chief architect of the Peterite victory as he came up with brilliant all-round show. Halambage stroked 82 runs with the bat while starring with the ball taking 3 wickets for 44 runs.

The Tier B encounter between Thurstan College and Zahira College ended in a thrilling finish today at Zahira College Grounds in Colombo where the visitors clinched a 3-run win. Ushan Imesh top scored for Thurstan College with a knock of 59 runs which helped them to post a competitive 211 runs on the board.

Zahira College came close to the target but couldn’t get over the line as the visitors managed to hold their nerve with the ball. Thanuga Palihawadana was the star with the ball for the visitors as he picked up 3 wickets for 38 runs.

St. Benedict’s College registered a thumping win over St. Thomas’ College, Matara today at St. Benedict’s College Grounds. Mevan Dissanayake who picked up 5 wickets for 19 runs single handedly won the Bens the game with the ball.
