Thurstan College, Colombo qualified to the final of U19 Schools Division 1 Tier B Cricket Tournament as they defeated St. Joseph Vaz College by 51 runs in the Semi-Final encounter yesterday (27th November) at Nalanda College Grounds, Colombo.
After been put into bat first, Thurstan College posted a competitive 245 runs on the board thanks to an eye-catching half-century made by Thenuka Dewapriya where he scored 66 runs off 95 balls with 9 fours and a six.
Tharindu Eshan and Damian Prasansana excelled with the ball for St. Joseph Vaz College snaring 3 wickets each.
In reply, the lads from Wennappuwa made only 194 runs as the Thurstan bowlers Duvindu Nishan ripped through the opposition batting lineup picking up 5 wickets for 52 runs in 9.5 overs including a maiden over.
Meanwhile the traditional encounter between Mahanama College and St. Servatius College ended in a draw at Kirimandala Mawatha Grounds. Anjala Bandara’s classy century helped Mahanama College take first innings honors in the drawn encounter. The wicket-keeper batter Bandara stroked 126 runs off 235 balls with 10 fours and 4 sixes.
