St. Joseph’s and Trinity declared U19 joint champions

St. Joseph’s College, Colombo and Trinity College, Kandy declared joint champions of the U19 Inter-Schools Division 1 Tier ‘A’ Two Day Tournament 2022/23.

After day one was washed out due to rain, day two witnessed a full day’s play allowing the players to express themselves in the big final.

Trinity College opted to bowl first after winning the toss and the decision turned out to be gold as they managed to restrict the opposition to just 202 runs. Muditha Dissanayaka and Naren Muralidaran starred with the bat for St. Joseph’s College, scoring vital half-centuries.

Theeraka Ranathunga was the chief wrecker with the ball for Trinity College as he grabbed 5 wickets for 59 runs. Dinuka Tennakoon also impressed with a 3-wicket haul.

In reply, Trinity College posted 59 runs for 3 wickets at the close of play on day two. As the match ended without a result, both St. Joseph’s College and Trinity College were declared joint champions.

Trinity College who won the limited overs championship a few months ago, managed to complete the double with this two-day championship title, which they have done after 11 years.
