Shevon Daniel, Vishmi Gunaratne crowned School Cricketers of the Year

Former Sri Lanka Under 19 Captain and St. Joseph’s College (Colombo) all-rounder Shevon Daniel was adjudged the School Boy Cricketer of the Year 2023, while national-capped Vishmi Gunarathne of Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya (Gampaha) became the School Girl Cricketer of the Year 2023.

The U19 Schools Cricket Awards 2023 organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket, was held today (17th) at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.

The stylish left hand batter and right arm off spinner Shevon Daniel represented Sri Lanka in the U19 Cricket World Cup 2022, and also led the U19 side in a tri-series against Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

He recently played for Sri Lanka in the Asian Games 2023, and was also included in the Sri Lanka Emerging One Day squad for the Bangladesh series. In addition to this, the southpaw also won the award for Best Batter of the Boys’ U19 Schools Cricket 2022/23 season.

Furthermore, Dinura Kalupahana of Mahinda College, Galle won both the Best Bowler and the Best All-Rounder awards, while Vishwa Lahiru of Sri Sumangala College, Panadura was adjudged the Best Fielder.

A batting all-rounder, Vishmi Gunaratne, captained Sri Lanka team in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup which was held earlier this year, and is also a permanent player in the Sri Lanka Women’s National Team so far.

Apart from the School Girl Cricketer of the Year award, she also became the Best Batter of the Girls’ U19 Schools Cricket 2022/23 season. Furthermore, Dewmi Vihanga of Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya, Gampaha was adjudged the Best Bowler and the Best All-rounder, while Sumudu Nisansala of Devapathiraja College, Rathgama won the Best Fielder award.
