A couple of Under-19 school cricket encounters in the U19 Inter-Schools Division 1 Two Day Cricket Tournament were completed on January 7 as the ongoing inter-school tournament continued, producing competitive performances in both Tier A and Tier B fixtures.
In a Tier B encounter, St. Benedict’s College recorded a hard-fought victory by three wickets, successfully chasing down their target in the second innings. The chase was anchored by a composed unbeaten half-century from Mevan Dissanayake, whose knock ensured St. Benedict’s crossed the line despite resistance from the opposition bowlers.

Meanwhile, a Tier A fixture between Thurstan College and Richmond College was worked off at the Thurstan College Grounds. Batting first, Thurstan College were dismissed for 257, with Sethru Fernando leading the way with a well-compiled 57. Richmond College responded with 166, as Chalinidu Karunaratne top-scored with a fighting 52.

Thurstan College then posted 121 in their second innings, highlighted by an unbeaten 63 from Rachintha de Silva, setting Richmond College a challenging target within limited time. Richmond ended the day on 68, but with time running out, the match concluded without an outright result.
