Kaluthara town club (KTC) recorded a two run thrilling win against Lankan Cricket club while Army Sports Club demolished Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club to register a 147 run big win in the U 23 Division I Club tournament worked off today.

Lankan CC won the toss and elected to bowl on a bowler friendly track at Surrey grounds. Opener Damindu Ashan began brightly as he along with fellow opener Darana put on a reasonable 33 run partnership for the first wicket before Darana was dismissed caught off the bowling of Madawa Fernando for 8 runs of 16 balls. Damindu Ashan followed his opening partner back to the dressing room as he was dismissed for a valuable contribution of 39 of 50 balls. Rusira Ravishanka, coming three down scored a rapid 48 runs while Gayan Chamara registered an unbeaten 31 to propel KTC towards a respectable 238 in 48 overs.

Iwanka Sanjula was the pick of the bowlers as he bowled an economical spell while managing to pick up 2 wickets. Anushka Perera, Madawa Fernando and Fernando picked a wicket a piece for Lankan CC.

Lankan CC got off to the worst possible start as they were reduced to 2/2 in Gihan Sanjeewa’s first over of the second innings of the game. A steady 4th wicket partnership between Anushka Perera and Pramud Hettiwaththa got the case back on track for Lankan CC.  Wickets falling at crucial times did not help Lankan CC in their chase as they came ever so close to their target but fell 2 runs short in the end.

Pramud Hettiwaththa top scored for Lankan CC with a classy knock of 71 which included 9 fours and 3 sixes. Anushka Perera fell two runs short of a half century as he was dismissed for 48 runs of 32 balls. Gayan Kanishka was the pick of the bowlers for Kaluthara Town Club 4/25 while Gihan Sanjeewa also bagged 4 for 46 in his spell of 20 overs.

Army vs Ports Authority

Meanwhile in the game played at the Panagoda Army Grounds, the home side managed to ease to victory as they beat the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club by a massive 147 run margin.

Winning the toss and electing to field, Ports Authority got off to the worst possible start as Army managed 96 runs for the opening partnership. Ashan Randika top scored with 84 (6 fours and 7 Sixes) for Army as his opening partner Leo Fransisco registered the next highest score of 40 off 43 ball which included 5 fours.

Even though they got off to a good start, a quick wicket in the middle of the innings saw them restricted to just 229 all out in 42.2 over. Lasindu Nimsara, Hasitha Madushan, Wanidu Hasaranga and Charith Sudaraka all managed 2 wickets each.

Ports Authority never managed to kick start their chase of 230. Hamaduranga Rajapaksha and Bimsara were the only two batsmen to get double figures as they scored 26 and 13 respectively.

Yohan De Silva and Sanjeew Kumarswamy bagged three wickets each for Army as they ran through the Ports Authority batting line up to hand Army a massive win of 147 run.
