Sameera and Lasith lights up U23 T20 Tournament

Sameera Sandamal’s 71 helped Navy SC chase down a big total against Tamil Union while Lasith Lakshan’s 79 was enough to see BRC past Moors. Negombo CC, Ragama CC, Police SC, Army SC, Colts SC, Kalutara TC, Chilaw Marians, NCC, SSC and Colombo CC won as 12 matches took place on day 4 of the Under 23 Division 1 t20 Tournament.

Tamil Union vs Navy SC

Sithara Gimhan top scored with 55 as Dinuk Wickramanayaka’s 52 helped Tamil Union to a commendable total of 171 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs.  Sameera Chandimal  stepped up with a remarkable 71 to drive Navy SC to a rather comfortable win with 8 wickets in hand.

Negombo CC were propelled to a par score of 141 for 8 in their 20 as Shihan Dilashri top scored with 38. In reply Tiran Danapala lead Bloomfield’s chase as he scored 47 run. His contribution was to no avail as Bloomfield fell short by 8 runs in the game played at FTZ grounds in Katunayake.

Ragama CC made their way to an imposing total of 168 with Thilaksha Sumanasiri (45) and Kaveen Fernando (42) being the chief contributors. Ports Authority never looked threatening as they were restricted to 151 for 8 in 20 overs. Navod Kalansuriya top scored falling two short of a half-century as Kaveen Fernando (4/27) and Taneesha Weerakoon (2/20) were the wicket takers for Ragama.

Police vs Saracens

Nimanaka Rathnayake’s half century (54) lead Police SC to a score of 150 for 7 in 20 overs. Ishan Nilaksha was the top scorer for Saracens with 53 while Duleena Thissakutti unbeaten 42 was not enough as Saracens fell short by 11 runs eventually been held for 139 in 20 overs.

Army managed a stress-free win over Lankan CC beating the latter by 86 runs. Batting first Army, led by Himasha Liyanage’s 41 managed 164 for 6 in 20 overs. Chasing the target Lankan CC did not manage to get into three figures as they were bowled out for a mere 78 in 18.2 overs falling short by 86 runs.

Colts SC managed to beat Rio SC comfortabl by 8 wickets. Batting first Rio were out classed being dismissed for just 74 in 19.3 overs. Pramoda Maduwantha (3/7) and Sahan Arachchige (2/11) were the chief destroyers as they ran through the Rio batting. Colts eased their way to the target losing just 2 wickets in the process.

Kaluthara Town registered a win over Badureliya, winning by 25 runs. Batting First Kaluthara Town lead by Geeth Perera’s unbeaten 64 managed 147 for 6 in 20 overs. Jacob Sachin scored 53 as he tried to bring Badureliya home but eventually were restricted for 122 for 9 falling short by 25 run.

BRC recorded an easy win beating Moors by 35 runs. Batting first, spearheaded by Lasith Lakshan’s 74 scored a commanding 174 for 6 in 20 overs. Moors were never in the chase and succumbed to good bowling being restricted to 139 in 20 overs.

Old Thurstanites failed to back up their win from yester as they went down to NCC in the game played at the home of NCC. Batting first Old Thurstanites reached a reasonable total of 145 for 9 in 20 overs. NCC had other ideas as they marched their way to the target in 17.4 overs, losing just 4 wickets in the process.

Chasing the below par target Kavindu Kulasekara (47*) and Adeesha Thulanchana (44*) drove SSC home in 17 overs losing just 4 wickets in the process.
