India U19 tour of Sri Lanka 2018 – 2nd Youth Test – Day 01

The 2nd and last Youth Test between hosts Sri Lanka U19 and India U19 kick-started today at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Sooriyawewa, Hambantota.

Both teams fielded XIs with 2 changes each. The home team had to replace 15-year old Dunith Wellalage as he injured himself during the 1st Youth Test. Sonal Dinusha, who scored a half-century in the warm-up game against India U19 was Wellalage’s replacement while right-arm leg spinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth who took 4 wickets in the warm-up, replaced left-arm spinner Shashika Dulshan.

India U19 scored 384 for the loss of 7 wickets as all their batsmen took their batting knocks throughout…

For India, pace bowler Yatin Mangwani replaced pacer Akash Pandey while spinner Siddharth Desai replaced spinner Harsh Tyagi.

The Indian skipper Anuj Rawat, who won the toss elected to bat first. Centurion in the previous game Atharva Taide started on his merry way while posting 40 steady runs for the 1st wicket with the skipper.

However, Kalhara Senaratne who took a 6-wicket haul in the previous game, broke the partnership by hitting Rawat’s stumps around his legs. Then came in Pavan Shah.

Sri Lanka U19s thumped by an innings

The India U19s made light work of the Sri Lanka U19s middle and lower order on day 4, as the hosts lost their last five ….

Pavan Shah and Taide put on an invaluable stand worth of 263 runs. Taide, during the cause, went on to reach his 2nd century on the tour. Anyway he was denied of a double-century by Viyaskanth who dismissed Taide on 177.

Devdutt Padikkal who came in next couldn’t trouble the Lankan bowlers as he was run-out on 6. Vice-captain Aryan Juyal then got together with free-flowing Shah to add 76 runs for the 4th wicket. Juyal too was run-out, making it the 2nd run-out in this inning.

Pavan Shah remained unbeaten on 177 at the stumps along with Nehal Wadhera (5). The Indian score at stumps was a mammoth 428/4.
