The League’s Impact players week 3

The Singer schools league gets more exciting by the week with school boys dishing out some spectacular rugby.

St. Peters College’s dynamic play maker Kevin Dixon showcased a stunning performance against St. Thomas with a hat-trick of tries. Dixon showed amazing ability in creating spaces on attack and his dancing feet were almost unstoppable. This lad more or less carries out the style of the Irish legend Brian O’Driscoll’s play which is electrifying with the ball in hand especially when attacking. He could have kept two more tries unfortunately he knocked- on.

Yet another Centre display this time from the double blues Ishara Madhushan. He too loves attacking in to space and delivered very skillful performance against D.S. Senanayake College. Madhushan the Wesley centre made a clear different between him and the rest. His tactical kicks allowed the wings to chase great yards and put the opposite under pressure.

Shezan Saleh of Kingswood College burst through the Science line with two tries to his name. Saleh is one of the most promising players for the unbeaten team thus far but he was unable to deliver his best in the  previous two encounters. On week three he was outstanding with his performance and that made a significant impact for the Kings to carry on the unbeaten tag thus far.

The Eagles scrum half Dilan Jayatissa played a crucial game in order to seal their first victory this year. Jayatissa made the score board ticking with nailing penalties and conversions for St. Anthony’s College. He did not have a good start in the match against Science College but slowly built up the momentum in the match against S Thomas releasing quick balls from ruck.  Also he was too good against the defending champions in the third week with his boots and his decision making.

Nimshan Jayawardene skipper of Royal led his team brilliantly and his place kicking made the difference in this close encounter. Nimshan was terrific in loose play and he always broke off from the first tackler. He joined the back line almost every time to try and penetrate the Joes defense.  The skipper kicked three 3 penalties under pressure and his devastating runs always created problems for the Josephians.

Shamilka Kurumbalapitiya of St. Joseph’s  scored a stunning try unleashing his side stepping skills and extra pace down the left flank which was a total crowd teaser. He side stepped using both his legs to ease pass a few Royal defenders. He was rock solid in his defensive work as he made try saving tackles on several occasions. Shamilka’s place kicking was 100% accurate as well and he stood out as the most impressive Josephian player in week three despite losing to Royal in a nail biter.
