The Mercantile Rugby Football Association (MRFA) is proud to announce the official dates for one of the most anticipated fixtures in the corporate sporting calendar and the most popular historical rugby sevens event in the country, the 54th Mercantile Rugby Sevens, scheduled to be held from 13th to 15th November 2026.
Spanning more than five decades, the Mercantile Rugby Sevens is one of Sri Lanka’s most respected sporting traditions, celebrated for its intense competition, camaraderie, and sportsmanship within the corporate sector. Built on a proud legacy and steeped in rich history, the 2026 edition promises another thrilling showcase of speed, skill, and pride.
The MRFA invites all mercantile institutions nationwide to stake their claim in this year’s edition, whether defending a legacy or stepping onto the turf as a new challenger. Teams can compete across three tiers suited to their strength and experience. MRFA sevens is played under three catagories, the Cup, an open competition with no limit on registered club players; the Bowl, allowing up to four registered club players in the squad with three on the field at a time; and the Shield, allowing up to two registered club players with only one on the field at any time.
The tiered competition structure is designed to welcome more teams into the tournament while maintaining the quality, competitiveness, and sporting excellence that have been the hallmark of the Mercantile Rugby Sevens for over five decades.
Team registrations will open shortly, and interested teams are encouraged to submit their entries early to secure participation in what is expected to be another outstanding edition of the Mercantile Rugby Sevens.
