The third week of the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2026 Super Round delivered another exciting weekend of action, with the Cup Segment taking centre stage. Defending champions Trinity College remained the only unbeaten side after edging Zahira in a thriller, while St. Peter’s kept their title hopes alive with a hard-fought win over Royal. Wesley also stunned Isipathana to record their first victory over the Green Machine since 2019. Meanwhile, Kingswood moved to the brink of the Bowl Championship, while St. Joseph’s strengthened their grip on the Plate title race with a crucial victory.

Kingswood Edge Closer to Bowl Glory

Kingswood College officially secured the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2026 Bowl Championship after surviving a dramatic 38-34 battle against D.S. Senanayake College at Bogambara Stadium. Imad Jhan and skipper Sachintha Naweesha were among the key contributors, while Shamith Safraz controlled proceedings with the boot. D.S. Senanayake mounted a late comeback through Praveen Lakmal and Yasanda Ravindra, but Kingswood held their nerve to clinch the game.

Science College produced one of their finest performances of the season to dismantle Mahanama College 52-7 in Mount Lavinia. Methuka Edirisinghe orchestrated the attack superbly, while Nethum Methsen, Malindu Munasinghe, Riveen Edirisooriya and Demitha Silva all crossed over in a dominant eight-try display. Mahanama managed a consolation through Emith Kumarasinghe, but Science were simply too powerful throughout the contest.

Lumbini Turn the Tide to Confirm Cambrian Relegation

Lumbini College delivered another composed display to defeat Prince of Wales College 28-13 and move a step closer to retaining their Division 1 status. Prince of Wales controlled much of the opening half through Suren Nimsara, but Lumbini’s superior fitness and execution proved decisive after the break. Pawan Nethmina, Hasaral Nethsara, Sashan Prabuddha and Lakshan Perera all touched down, while Sachintha Induwara was flawless with the boot. The defeat officially confirmed Prince of Wales’ relegation from Division 1 Segment A.

St. Joseph’s College held off a spirited Thurstan College fightback to secure a dramatic 24-22 victory and take a significant step towards the Plate Championship. Inosh Silva, Dion Fernando, Sithanga Liyanage and Theekshana Jayasinghe scored for the Josephians, while Thurstan remained in contention through Akeesha Pushpakumara’s brace and tries from Tharindu Senarathna and Rasanjana Nirmal. A missed conversion at the death denied Thurstan a share of the spoils.

Maleesha Karunatilaka scored both tries for the visitors, but the Thomians dominated possession and territory to secure a comfortable win.

Zahira refused to back down through Afham Abdeen, Ahamed Arafath, Muzil Samath and Basith Feroze, but Trinity’s composure in key moments proved decisive as they emerged as the only unbeaten team remaining in the Cup Segment.

Wesley College produced one of the biggest upsets of the season, defeating Isipathana College 27-25 for their first victory over the Green Machine since 2019. Jonathan Wijayasinghe, Nelith Hapugala, Prarthana Rodrigo, Liam Onasiz and Abdul Rahuman all crossed over as Wesley repeatedly answered Isipathana’s challenges. Rismi Jafrad scored twice for the visitors, but Wesley held their nerve in a dramatic finish.

Royal responded through Akira Yatawara’s brace alongside tries from Kavan Ekanayake and Uthsara Wijerathne, but St. Peter’s resilience proved enough to reclaim the B.C. Anghie Trophy.
