Peterites got back to winning ways with an emphatic victory against President’s College, Kotte at St Peter’s College grounds.

Vinu Mohotti won the toss and elected to bat first. The home side have been struggling in the batting department right throughout the season but this time it wasn’t the case. After losing 3 wickets in quick succession, Lakshina Rodrigo and 15 year old Ranvith Jayasena put up an unbeaten 250+ partnership. National coloursman Lakshina Rodrigo with his second consecutive century scored a blistering unbeaten 118 runs while the youngster Ranvith Jayasena scored his maiden hundred at the other end. St Peter’s declared at 300 for the loss of 3 wickets in just 58 overs, certainly a change of gears in their batting department.

Visitors came on to bat in the second session of day one. President’s College after a torrid day with the ball had to face more misery with the bat. Peterite pacey Ravindu Silva took some early breakthroughs leaving their spinners to do the rest. The visitors were bundled out for a mere 118 runs in 23 overs. Ravindu and Taneesha took three wickets each. With the bat for President’s College Navod Kalansooriya scored a resolute 49 while Malsha Jayawardane chipped in with 20 runs.

The visitors were asked to follow on by Mohotti in the third session of day one. At stumps President’s College was struggling at 19 for the loss of 2 wickets. The home side kicked off the second day from where they left off. This time bulk of the wickets were taken by the spinners. Right Arm leg spinner Dinal Jayakody bagging 4 wickets for 47 runs while their leading wicket taker Taneesha Weerakoon took 4 for 61. President’s College was bundled out for 144 runs in 49.4 overs giving St Peter’s College an innings and 46 runs victory.

Gurukula College VS Holy Cross College

Surrey Village grounds hosted the match between Gurukula College and Holy Cross College. Toss was won by Holy Cross and they put Gurukula to bat first. Their decision went horribly wrong when Gurukula batters went on their merry way to score runs at a brisk pace. Ashintha Malshan with a well composed century while Pruthuwi Rusara scored a valuable half century to put his team in a commanding position. Gurukula was ultimately bowled out for 334 in 65.4 overs thanks to a fifer by Rehan vas.

Holy Cross came on to bat on the third session of day 1 and at stumps they were struggling at 70 for the loss of 4 wickets. Holy Cross showed

some fight but it wasn’t enough to withstand the pressure from the bowling attack. Nuwan Chanaka taking 7 wickets for just 33 runs helping his team to bundle out the opponents for just 163 runs. With the bat for Holy Cross Lahiru Thambavita top scored with 48 runs.

Holy Cross was asked to follow on but this time they somehow managed to pile up 220 all out in 56.1 overs giving Gurukula a target of 50 runs. Umayanga Suwaris with a valuable 57 runs and a 46 runs cameo by Rumeshan Silva made sure that they don’t go down without a fight. Gurukula ultimately scored the runs in just 5.1 overs by losing only one wicket to take the win by 9 wickets.
