The 70th Battle of the Golds played between Moratu Maha Vidyalaya and Sri Sumangala College, Panadura commenced today (29th July), at De Soysa International Cricket Stadium.

After been put to bat first, Moratu Maha Vidyalaya only managed to post 96 runs, as a collective bowling effort from Sumangala bowlers outplayed them. Heshan Jayalath, Rasika Dilshan, Vidusha Peiris and Manmitha Dulran starred with the ball, picking up 2 wickets each for Sri Sumangala College.

In reply, the lads from Panadura also struggled with the bat, displaying a similar kind of batting effort to what the opposition showcased and being restricted to 98/9 at the end of first day’s play. Kavindu Gayathra was the only standout performer with the bat for Sri Sumangala College, as he made 48 runs off 68 balls with 4 fours.

Malith Rupasinghe stood out with the ball for the Moralians, as he bagged 3 wickets for 17 runs. The match will be continued for day two tomorrow.
