Sri Lanka registered a thrilling three-wicket victory over Scotland in their Group B encounter of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 played yesterday (26th June) in Manchester, keeping their semi-final hopes alive.
Having won the toss, Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu elected to bowl first. Scotland produced a competitive batting performance to post 151 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs, led by an unbeaten 47 from Sarah Bryce.
Sri Lanka’s pace spearhead Mithali Ayodhya was the standout performer with the ball, claiming two wickets for 34 runs, while the rest of the bowling unit chipped in with timely breakthroughs to restrict the Scottish batters.

In reply, Sri Lanka endured a tense run chase but held their nerve to reach the target with just one ball to spare and three wickets in hand.
Athapaththu once again provided the ideal start, smashing 33 runs off just 16 deliveries, including six boundaries and a six, to put early pressure on the Scottish bowlers.
The middle order then kept Sri Lanka on course through valuable contributions from Hasini Perera (23), Harshitha Samarawickrama (27) and Nilakshika Silva (21). Despite regular wickets falling, the lower order displayed composure in the closing stages to guide Sri Lanka over the line in a nail-biting finish.
The victory marked Sri Lanka’s third win of the tournament and created a significant milestone in the team’s T20 World Cup history. It is the first time Sri Lanka have recorded three or more victories in a single edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
