Sri Lanka tasted a sweet day in Nepal in the South Asian Games 2019 as both their  Cricket teams managed to register huge wins over Bhutan and Maldives.

Sri Lanka U23 Vs Bhutan – Men’s

The Sri Lanka U23 team competed in their 2nd game of the South Asian Games 2019 Cricket competition and recorded a thumping victory by 173 runs against Bhutan, thanks to some fireworks from Pathum Nissanka and Nishan Madushka in the top order.

After being put into bat by Bhutan, Sri Lanka were propelled to 248/4 in the 20 overs as Nissanka and Madushka stroked rapid half centuries [Nissanka – 76 (48), Madushka – 65 (38)].

In reply, only 1 Bhutan batman could go past 10-run mark as they were bundled out for 75 in 18.4 overs. Wrist spinner Sachindu Colombage and Jehan Daniel bagged 2 wickets each.

Sri Lanka Men’s next assignment will be against Maldives tomorrow at 12.45pm at the same ground. (Note that teams representing Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are Under-23 teams while the countries, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives are represented by their national teams)

Sri Lanka Vs Maldives – Women’s 

Skipper of Sri Lanka Women’s team Harshitha Madavi shone with the bat today as she played a brilliant knock against Maldives, racing to an unbeaten century off just 45 balls with 3 sixes and 15 boundaries. 

Sri Lanka Women amassed a humongous 279 runs in 20 overs backed up by Captain Madavi’s century and Sathya Sandeepani’s unbeaten 96. The pair added 221 runs for the 3rd wickets in just 14 overs and concluded the innings with a flurry, taking 109 runs in the last 6 overs.

Maldives chase never got going as they lost wickets at regular intervals and were rolled over for 30. Interestingly, 7 Extras was the highest score in the Maldives innings as Sri Lanka completed a completely dominant performance. Janadi Anali was the highest wicket taker for Sri Lanka, taking 3 wickets in her team’s 249-run win.

Sri Lanka women will face Nepal on 6th December at 12.45pm at the same ground.
