Solid, Army, Air Force title bids falter

Solid SC’s second round in the Dialog Champions League got off to a horrific start as the two Kalutara Clubs played spoilsports handing them just one from six points.

Solid had back to back week visits to Kalutara all the way from Anuradhapura to play Kalutara’s finest, Blue Star SC and Kalutara Park who are struggling at the bottom of the table.

Solid lost to Blue Star 2-1 in what they deemed as controversial refereeing but in hindsight it was due to the fact that the players were submerged in their own rules without playing for the referee’s whistle.

In their next match against Kalutara Park they had to settle for a goalless draw after Kalutara Park showcased a resilient defense effort in front of their thousands of fans at the Vernon Fernando Stadium.

The newly signed former Sri Lanka Youth player and fresh from Manchester United training Old Joe Sanjula Thilan was the live wire for Kalutara Park in the midfield.

Japanese flavoured New Youngs down Air Force

The skills and combination play of 3 Japanese players was the key to the success of the underdogs New Youngs SC who beat the defending champions Air Force by 3 goals to 2 at the Dialog Champions League match played at Kelaniya FFSL complex.

At half time New Youngs led 2-1.

The Airmen fresh from the AFC Presidents Cup final round sans 2 strikers, Nipuna Bandara and D.K. Duminda due to injury could not sustain the New Youngs who were thriving for a victory in the season.

Jayavilal penalty draws Army

Rajitha Jayavilal scored from the spot to earn a point against high riding Army at Police Park.

At half time Army were leading through a goal from captain Bandara Warakagoda but were lackluster in their display throughout the whole match and had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Negombo Youth crush Matara City

Thanks to former National main striker Kasun Jayasuriya who scored a hat-trick in the game and Negombo Youth seal the victory adding 3 more points to climb the ladder closer to the table leaders.
