Kapugedara who became Sri Lanka’s 20th ODI captain on Sunday in Pallekelle, has aggravated a back injury and the team management will take a final call on his participation on Wednesday.

“He did have the issue in Kandy, but I think when he went into bat, it got worse. We’ll just have to wait further for the physio to tell us what’s going on. We’ll most probably look at it tomorrow (Wednesday) at training tomorrow afternoon. If he doesn’t train tomorrow, then definitely he is out.” Gurusinha told ESPNCricinfo.

Kapugedara was appointed as the stand-in skipper for the 3rd and 4th ODIs after captain Upul Tharanga was suspended by the ICC for a slow-over rate offence in the 2nd match.

Dinesh Chandimal, who was brought in for the 3rd ODI fractured his finger while batting and has been ruled out of the remainder of the series. Opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka who missed the 3rd ODI due to a shoulder injury is expected to recover in time for the next match and slot back into the side.

According to reliable sources, If Kapugedara is not declared fit, batsman Dhananjaya De Silva is set to come into the side and experienced Lasith Malinga will take up the role of captaincy.
