Five games of the ongoing Schools First-XI Cricket Tournament were worked off across the two tiers today (12), around the island.

Tharindu Amarasinghe’s brilliant century helped Prince of Wales College register a 7-wicket win over St. Anne’s College. A disciplined bowling effort from Prince of Wales College restricted St. Anne’s College to 195, which was then chased by the Cambrians quite convincingly with 7 wickets and 18.1 overs in hand.

Amarasinghe, the star with the bat for the lads from Moratuwa, stroked 101 runs off 80 balls with 10 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 126.25.

Vihas Thewmika’s all-round brilliance steered Thurstan College to record a comprehensive 6-wicket win over Maris Stella College. Thewmika picked up 2 crucial wickets for 20 runs with the ball and delivered with the bat, scoring a match winning 40 runs off 64 balls with 4 fours to his name.

Isipathana College’s opening batter Tharusha Nethsara’s magnificent century and Sithuka Gunawardane’s 4-wicket haul guided Isipathana College to victory against St. Sylvester’s College. Nethsara made 104 runs off 113 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes, helping Isipathana put on a competitive score on the board, which was later defended by their bowlers led by Gunawardane, who picked up 4 wickets for 17 runs in his 8-over spell.
