Sri Lanka Cricket has come forward to donate Rs. 20,000 each for schools cricket coaches around the Island.

In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic in Sri Lanka, most schools’ cricket coaches have been severely affected. ThePapare.com noted earlier, that the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Coaches Association were looking forward to the financial support of SLC. Upon the request made by them, the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) and the Sports Ministry took the story to SLC who have duly taken steps to fulfil the requests.

Accordingly, 225 coaches around the country are about to benefit from this deed. “The SLSCA and the Ministry of Sports requested on behalf of the Sri Lanka Cricket Coaches Association, considering that, we decided to support them in the means that we could” SLC president Shammi Silva said.

With schools being closed and cricketing activities being put to a halt, coaches were financially pushed to the wall, some even lost their source of income completely. The matter was taken to the Minister of Sports, Minister of Education, President of Sri Lanka Cricket and the President of the Schools Cricket Association of Sri Lanka previously. Thanks to those officers, the coaches have now been handed with some support to keep practicing this profession and gear themselves up for the post-Covid era of cricket.
