Schools Cricket Coaches expect support

All cricketing activities in the country have come to a halt with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Coaches Association states that this has affected the coaches severely.

Cricket, a premier sport in this nation, is easily also the most popular in Sri Lanka. Schools cricket has been vital in its sustainability, and the coaches haven been thoroughly essential for upholding its structure. However with the prevalence of the COVID-19 pandemic, coaches have now been financially pushed to the wall, some even having lost their source of income completely.

“Coaches are facing many financial difficulties due to this pandemic situation. To provide support to these coaches, we are hoping to take this matter to the notice of the honorable Minister of Education, Minister of Sports and the President of Sri Lanka Cricket,” stated Mr. Eranga Gunaratne, legal advisor of the Schools Cricket Coaches Association, speaking exclusively to ThePapare.com.

The office-bearers of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Coaches Association are hoping to meet the honorable Minister of Sports, Minister of Education, President of Sri Lanka Cricket and the President of the Schools Cricket Association of Sri Lanka, to propose the following concerns and requirements –

  • To accept whatever benefits are offered by the Government.
  • To gain health insurance cover for cricket coaches.
  • Schools Cricket Coaches have not gained any benefits from SLC so far despite them being SLC accredited coaching license holders.

ThePapare.com wishes the best for all those affected, and hopes that everyone will work together towards the prosperity of the sport and its future. a
