A battle between Colombo & Kandy all set for the finals

The two unbeaten teams of the tournament, St. Joseph’s College, Colombo and Trinity College, Kandy, will meet in the Under 17 Division 1 Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament finals today (24), at Surrey Grounds, Maggona. This tournament is conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association with the sponsorship of Sri Lanka Cricket.

St. Joseph’s College Colombo, captained by Kenath Liyanage, advanced to the second round as champions of their group in the first round. St. Joseph’s College, Colombo managed to beat Holy Cross College, Kalutara in the second round, followed up by a win against Mahanama College Colombo in the pre quarter-final. Their quarter-final encounter was washed off due to rain, and the Josephians got the bonus point advantage to book their spot in the semis. In the semi-finals, they overcame Gurukula College Kelaniya to enter the finals.

Just like St. Joseph’s College, Trinity College, Kandy, led by Malith Rathnayake, advanced to the second round as Champions of their group in the first round. Then Trinity College beat D. S. Senanayake College, Kandy in the second round, and St. Anthony’s College Wattala in the pre quarter-final. The Trinitians also advanced through to the semi-finals via higher bonus points after the quarter-final faceoff against Mahinda College was abandoned due to rain. The lads from Kandy then defeated S.Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia to set up a final encounter for the title against the Joes.
