Nipun Karunanayake, Dasun Shanaka stroke tons; Maduka Liyanapathiranage takes 6-fer
The second day’s play of the final round of the plate championship in the SLC Major League Tier ‘A’ Tournament…
Lankan Cricket Club could not meet the mammoth total of 599 runs put by Moors Sports Club even after batting through their 2 innings. Up and coming spinner Praveen Jayawickrama recorded his second fifer in a performance that helped Moors SC to a comfortable victory.
After being shot out for 184 runs in the first innings and conceding 371 runs in reply, Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club had to bring out their ‘A’ game to save themselves from a humiliating defeat at the hands of the new kids on the block – Negombo Cricket Club.
That is exactly what opener Yohan Mendis and star player Dhananjaya de Silva did to save the game for Tamil Union. Mendis scored a 211-ball 116 runs, while the 135th Test Cap of Sri Lanka, De Silva showed his class with 167 runs in just 140 deliveries.
The game also marked the exit of the Tamil Union Skipper Tharanga Paranavithana from the First-Class arena.
Off-spinner Lakshitha Rasanjana picked up a fifer to top the bowling, but it was not enough to seal the game.

Perera scored 113 runs in the first innings for Badureliya, while the only other batsman to score over 30 runs was Dunith Jayathunga, who made 67 runs. Perera then followed it up with another fighting 112 runs in the second innings, while it was once again only one other batsman who gave him a hand at the centre. Thilakarathne Sampath scored 72 runs opening the innings for Badureliya SC in the second innings.
