Eleven 7th week matches of the SLC Major League Tournament 2022 concluded today (2nd October), with four matches producing results. This concludes the week with five result-producing games out of 12.

The final day of play in the week saw five bowling performances which claimed match bags of 10+ wickets, while three of them helped their respective teams win outright. Apart from that, three other 5-wicket hauls were recorded to make it a day dominated by the bowlers.

CCC Skipper Ashan Priyanjan claimed another 5 wickets in the second innings to go with his 8 in the first innings, to guide his team to a comfortable 9-wicket win over BRC. Priyanjan also opened the batting for CCC and scored 55 in their run-chase. This win extends their lead in the top of the table of Group A.

The drawn encounter between Sebastianites C & AC and Galle CC at the P. Sara Oval saw a couple of brilliant bowling displays. The Sebastianites’ ambidextrous Tharindu Ratnayake became the fifth bowler in this tournament to claim an 8-wicket haul, while Galle’s Indian leg-spinner Raghu Sharma reached his third match bag of 10 or more wickets in this tournament.

SSC’s Prabath Jayasuriya became the second bowler to reach 50 wickets in the tournament today as he ended their game against Ragama CC with a match haul of 11 wickets.

Former Sri Lanka U19 cap Janishka Perera made an impressive ton on his First Class debut, scoring an unbeaten 135 for Moors SC in their second innings against the strong bowling attack of Colts CC. The Moors were 342 runs behind their opponents when they started the second innings, and thanks to Perera’s valiant effort, they ended the game on 334/5.

The five remaining Group B games saw three of them ending with results. The biggest out of the three were table-topper Tamil Union C & AC’s defeat at the hands of Chilaw Marians CC. With this win, which is also their first win of the tournament, Chilaw Marians climb up to second place in the table. Off-spinner Lasith Lakshan was their star as he claimed 11 wickets in the game.

Bloomfield C & AC, who were last in the table before this week, registered their first win of the tournament by beating Navy SC by 10 wickets. This result pushes Bloomfield one spot up in the table, making Negombo CC the new number 13. Centurion in the first innings for Bloomfield, Pakistani Hasnain Bokhari, claimed 5 wickets in the second innings, while former Anandian Dileepa Jayalath grabbed 5 wickets in the first innings.

Nimesh Vimukthi continued to excel for Panadura SC in their game against Nugegoda S & WC finishing with a match bag of 11 wickets to guide his team to a big win.
