Eight matches of the third week of the SLC Major League tournament ended today (04th September) at several venues across the island.
Burgher Recreation Club, who needed just 38 runs to win coming into the final day, got over the line comprehensively registering a 6-wicket win over Galle Cricket Club. Tillakaratne Sampath who scored 47 runs off 56 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes carried his side home today.
The 21-year-old left-arm spinner Theeshan Vithushan picked up a match bag of 10 wickets for 79 runs, helping Moors SC register an innings win over Kandy Customs SC.

Army SC who faltered with the bat in the first innings against Nugegoda S & WC showed an improved batting display in the second innings thanks to Lakshan Edirisinghe’s century. Edirisinghe stroked a brilliant 134 runs off 223 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes fulfilling the responsibilities as the leader of the team.
Four encounters (SSC vs Police SC, NCC vs Badureliya CC, Lankan CC vs CCC, Saracens SC vs Panadura SC) which were rescheduled due to bad weather, also commenced today. SSC took on Police SC today in their backyard and dominated the opposition, posting 319/6 on day one. In-form batters Nipun Dhananjaya and Nuwanidu Fernando stroked brilliant centuries for SSC.
The strong NCC batting lineup was restricted to just 152 runs against Badureliya CC today. 28-year-old Chalana de Silva was the star performer with the ball for Badureliya CC as he snared 5 wickets for 49 runs.
Left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara wrecked the Lankan CC batting lineup taking 8 wickets for just 27 runs. After restricting Lankan CC to 67, CCC posted 154 runs for 5 wickets at stumps on day one.
