The 4th week games of the SLC Major Club kick started yesterday (6th March) as 8 two-day games began in various venues across the country.

Group A

In Group A, table toppers Tamil Union C & AC hosted Ace Capital CC who is sitting just one position below and bundled them out for 191 after winning the toss and putting the visitors to bat first. Left-arm spinner, Dilum Sudeera picked up 6 wickets recording his third 5-wicket haul of the tournament. In reply, the hosts were 99 runs behind at close as they eye another first innings win with 7 wickets in hand.

Galle CC taking on Air Force SC in Katunayake finished day 1 on 276/7 as they look to climb up the group standings with a strong performance in this game. Kaveesha Rajapaksa and Captain Vinura Dulsara starred for the visitors with scores of 84 and 71.

Group B toppers SSC, having won all their previous 3 games, amassed 276/4 in the 52.2 overs which were allowed at the Panagoda Army Grounds as rain interrupted the day’s play. Top scoring for SSC, Tenushka Nanayakkara ended the day on 94*. Panadura SC will be eyeing to gain some important points in this game and move out of the last spot in the group standings.

In the game between hosts Sebastianites C & AC and Kurunegala Youth CC, visiting team’s Nimanda Kirindage took the limelight with a bowling performance of 5/79.

The only Group C game which began yesterday was between Colts CC and Bloomfield C & AC and the opening day ended keeping the game in a balanced state. Scoring 227 for the first innings, hosts Colts will be looking for a good finish as Bloomfield look to rebuild fromtheir overnight score of 66/3. Bloomfield’s spinner Aravinth Rajendran was the star of the day with a 5-wicket haul as Colts opener Shalin De Mel excelled with the bat scoring 82.

All 6 teams of Group D were involved in games yesterday as some high scoring first innings batting performances were recorded. Table toppers Ragama CC put on a 310/8 against Negombo CC while CCC and Kandy Customs CC scored 260/8 and 270/6 against Police SC and Badureliya CC respectively.

Wicket keeper batter Anjala Bandara top-scored with an unbeaten 113 for CCC while opener Hirantha Jayasinghe top-scored for Kandy Customs with 73.
