Rugby Rumble to kick off at CR & FC for the second time

The celebrative rugby carnival of the year, Rugby Rumble will kick off at the CR & FC grounds for the second successive occasion in grand style.

Organized as a tournament to cherish the bygone eras of school rugby, all arrangements have been made to make the event  a festive affair with many inclusions. The main highlight of the Rumble becomes the tag rugby tournament which will be held in two categories; over 20 and over 20. Speaking at the press conference, Tournament Director Dilroy Fernando highlighted that this year’s tournament will feature teams from all rugby playing schools as well as overseas representations from Qatar and Dubai.

According to Dilroy, the primary intention of such an event is to bring back the old memories with the sport and to allow the families to have a good time. A total of 26 teams will participate in the tournament which a significant increase from the first installment. The games will be played according to tag rugby rules and will be based on a round robin format.

One of the special inclusions in this year’s event is that it will be featuring the Dave Crane as its host. Dave Crane is one of the most experienced talk show  and event hosts and also is the host at the celebrated Dubai Sevens. He is expected to spice the atmosphere at CR & FC on the two days. In addition to Dave, the Saturday night will conclude with an after party featuring digital artist, DJ Hanna.

While the party atmosphere will prevail all throughout the two days, the additive in the Rugby Rumble is the legends game which will be the game between the Old Havelock players and the Old CR & FC players. A set of veterans who donned the jerseys of these two clubs are expected to play the exhibition tag rugby game that include Chula Dharmadasa, Ravi Gunaratne, Ted Muttiah and Jehan CanagaRatna.

There will be a prize money of 250,000/= on offer for the winners of the over 20 title and the other titles on offer will be the Plate, Bowl & Shield.
