The Sri Lanka Tuskers International Rugby hiatus ends as Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) is set to host Qatar in a two Test series played at the Racecourse International Stadium.

The Tuskers have not had any International matches for 4-years due to various reasons.  However, that is about to end as SLR plans to host the bi-lateral series conducted by Asia Rugby (AR), in May.

The two teams are set to lock horns on the 2nd of May at the Racecourse International Stadium, while the return fixture will be on the 5th of May at the same venue.

The squad is yet to be picked for the tournament, and the four-member Selection Committee is headed by former Sri Lanka and Police SC scrum half Sudath Sampath. Selections are due to take place in the weeks to come. The coaching staff will be home-grown coaches – foreign coaches will not be considered as Sri Lanka has home grown coaches with WR Level-3 coaching qualifications.

SLR Tournament Director Shamrath Fernando stated that this tournament was originally planned as a three-nation event. However, Pakistan had to pull out due to political unrest in the country.

Sri Lanka’s domestic calendar for the remainder of 2024 will mainly be with Sevens Rugby tournaments, with added focus being placed on the shorter version, following advice from Sports Minister Harin Fernando.
