Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo witnessed an exhilarating second day (25th June) of the Ritzbury All Island Schools Relay Carnival, organized by the Sri Lanka School Athletic Association and Ritzbury.

The second day of the tournament witnessed an array of thrilling events, including semi-finals, preliminary rounds, and highly anticipated finals of 800m and 50m relays.

The under-16 girls’ 4x800m final race set the stage for an exhilarating day of competition. With a time of 10:15.6 minutes, the girls of Walala A. Rathnayake Central College displayed their prowess, clinching a well-deserved victory. Not content with just one win, the girls from Walala continued their winning streak in the under-18 girls’ final race, crossing the finish line in an impressive 10:06.5 minutes.

In the under-20 girls’ 4x800m final, Walala A. Rathnayake Central College once again asserted their dominance, leaving their competitors in awe. With a remarkable time of 09:25.6 minutes, the Walala girls showcased their exceptional teamwork, sweeping the victory in all age groups of the event.

The boys’ 4x800m races were equally intense and fiercely contested. The under-16 boys’ event saw Menikhinna Madhya Maha Vidyalaya Athletes emerge victorious, crossing the finish line in a commendable time of 8:42.9 seconds. Meanwhile, the under-18 boys’ race witnessed a spirited performance from the athletes of Walala A. Rathnayake Central College, securing a triumph with a time of 8:40.0 minutes.

Continuing their dominance, Walala A. Rathnayake Central College athletes emerged victorious in the under-20 boys’ 4x800m race, finishing in a remarkable time of 08:06.2 minutes.

In addition to the long-distance races, the relay sprints brought a burst of excitement to the festival. Royal College of Colombo stole the spotlight in the under-12 4x50m relay event, emerging as the fastest team with a recorded time of 28.6 seconds.

The under-14 boys’ 4x50m relay witnessed a thrilling performance from the athletes of Trinity College Kandy, who blazed through the track in an impressive 26.1 seconds. On the girls’ side, Pannipitiya Dharmapala College showcased their speed and agility, winning the under-14 girls’ 4x50m relay with a time of 27.1 seconds.
