Rain spoils Trinity-Thora Hockey

The annual hockey big match for the 13th Warden Neville De Alwis memorial shield between Trinity College, Kandy & S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia took place on the 17th of October 2015 at the Asgiriya grounds.

The big day for the boys with sticks from both the schools did not go according to plan due to the heavy rains that persisted in the Hill Capitol for the last few days. The 1stXI match was scheduled to start at 3.30pm but due to the inclement weather, the start was pushed to 4.25 pm by the umpires.

The wet and muddy Asgiriya pitch was watered more by nature at when the match was started at 4.25pm. The determination to get some play in such bad conditions showcased the confidence of both teams. However, the referees were forced to blow the long whistle in the 10th minute of the game since the ball was no longer moving due to the amount water on the field. The decision by the referees was supported by both skippers who agreed to be named as Joint Champions for the year 2015.

Results of the Old Boys and Under 15 game

It was a disappointing showing by the host Trinity College as the under 15 game played for the B.S.G Sahayam shield ended up at 1-0 in favor of the boys from Mount Lavinia and the Old boys game also ended at 3-2 in favor of the Thomians.
