Sri Lanka Cricket’s premier under 15 youth league competition powered by Ceylon Agro Industries (Prima) kicked off yesterday (21).

This tournament has been a platform for a lot of upcoming cricketers to make a name for themselves over the years, which lays the platform to find future prospects for Sri Lanka Cricket in both the U19 arena and the International arena. The 50 over format tournament will take place with the participation of 5 provincial teams.

The selection process for the 5 provincial teams took place with a district tournament where 39 teams competed. The best performers for each province from the district tournament were selected for the final squads of the 5-team tournament.

The 39 teams of the district tournament consisted of 8 combined teams from the Central and Eastern Provinces, 6 teams from Colombo North, 6 teams from Colombo South and 11 teams from North, North Central and Wayamba provinces and 8 teams from the Southern province.

The district tournament took place with the participation of 507 of the best schoolboy cricketers in the island with 13 members in each squad and the tournament concluded on the 11th of November. From those 507 players, the best 65 players were selected for the Provincial tournament.

The 11 clashes of the Prima U15 Youth League will take place from the 21st to the 29th of November at the MCA Grounds in Colombo and the Irrigation Grounds in Ratmalana. On the opening day of the tournament, Colombo North defeated Galle and Colombo South defeated Kandy. After 10 round robin fixtures, the final of the tournament will take place on the 29th of November at the MCA Grounds.

Central and Eastern – Kandy 1, Kandy 2, Kandy 3, Nuwara Eliya, Ampara, Kegalle, Trincomalee and Batticaloa

Colombo North – Colombo North 1, Colombo North 2, Colombo North 3, Gampaha 1, Gampaha 2 and Gampaha 3

Colombo South – Colombo South 1, Colombo South 2, Colombo South 3, Kalutara 1, Kalutara 2 and  Kalutara 3

North, North Central and Wayamba – Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Mulativu, Vavuniya, Anuradhapura, Matale, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala 1, Kurunegala 2 and Puttalam

Uva & Southern – Galle 1, Galle 2, Galle 3, Hambantota, Matara, Badulla, Monaragala and Ratnapura
