Two traditional encounters and a Tier A 2-day encounter of the U19 Inter Schools Cricket Tournament were played today (21st November) at Kandy, Panagoda and Ambalangoda.
St. Thomas’ College registered a 1-wicket win over Sri Devananda College in their traditional encounter worked off today at UC Grounds, Ambalangoda. Pesandu Sanjan’s all-round brilliance helped the lads from Matara to clinch this victory.
Sanjan starred with the bat, scoring 120 runs while coming up with a superb bowling performance and picking up a match bag of 11 wickets for the victorious St. Thomas College.
Trinity College took the upper hand against Dharmaraja College on day one of their traditional encounter, which began today at Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy. After winning the toss, Trinity College opted to field first and managed to restrict the Rajans for just 107 runs.
Wibhavith Ehelepola (3/24), Tharana Wimaladharma (3/25) and Supun Waduge (2/02) starred with the ball, sharing 8 wickets between them. In reply, the hosts put on a better batting display, posting 231 runs on the board and taking a vital 124-run first innings lead.
Kusal Wijethunga and Dinusha Peiris were the chief architects with the bat for Trinity College as they notched up half-centuries. Thisaru Wanninayake displayed a notable bowling effort, taking 4 wickets for 50 runs for Dharmaraja College.
Poorna Kalhara’s all-round heroics helped Gurukula College take edge over Wesley College on day one of their Tier A 2-day encounter which began today at Army Grounds in Panagoda. After helping his side dismiss Wesley College for 182 runs with a 3-wicket haul, Kalhara delivered a match defining 78-run knock with the bat for the lads from Kelaniya.
