Dulash Udayanga followed his first-innings 77 with another unbeaten 45*, as Police SC extended their overall lead to 254 with four wickets in hand when stumps were drawn on day two.
Kurunegala YCC mustered only 161 runs in their first innings after their opponents posted 204 all-out on the opening day in 58.2 overs.
Ravindra Karunaratne made a fighting half-century for Kurunegala, but he didn’t get enough support as they conceded a vital 43-run first-innings lead to Police SC.
Nisar Ahmad was outstanding with the ball for Police capturing 4/42, while Supun Madusanka and Asel Sigera shared five wickets among them.
Police SC counter-attacked in their second innings to reach 211/6 in just 51 overs at stumps, with Udayanga leading the way once again.
Lakshan Rodrigo also hit a quick-fire 41 for Police, while Maduranga Zoysa made 33. Navin Kavikara captured four wickets in the second innings for Kurunegala YCC to add to his 2/48 in the first innings.
The game will continue tomorrow at Police Park as the home team will look to push for an outright victory.
