Pelicans survive the Singing Fish

In an enthralling affair, Pelicans SC made it to the pre-quarter final defeating Singing Fish SC 5-4 on penalties after the game ended 1-1 at full time in the Cargills Food City FA Cup 7th Round tie which was worked off at the Ariyal Grounds, Jaffna.

Singing Fish, who came into the pre-quarter final last year were beaten 2-1 by Matara City, were looking to book another pre-quarter final place this year against the newly relegated Pelicans SC from the Champions League

However from the start Pelicans SC dominated the game with the first goal coming in the 9thminute, from the boot of no.3 Kasun. Singing Fish played really hard to find a goal before half time, but the excellent work from Pelicans defenders and the goalkeeper made it an impossible task.

At half time Pelicans SC lead the match 1-0.

In the 2nd half Singing Fish SC started the game in an attacking manner and in the 47th minute of the game, No 10 player smashed an excellent goal and made the game interesting with the score at 1-1.

Then both teams played very aggressively in an attempt to taste victory, but they both failed to find the winning goal at full time.

To decide the winner of the match, penalties came into operation; Pelicans bagged the chances perfectly without missing any. Pelicans netted 5 goals while Singing Fish could only get 3 out of 4 and made their way out of the tournament. Pelicans move to the next round with a 5-4 victory.
