The 2nd pre-quarterfinal of the Singer Under 15 Division one tournament, continued today as Thurstan College Colombo hosted P. De S. Kularathne College Ambalangoda at the Thurstan College grounds.

The boys from Ambalangoda were off to a shaky start as Vinod Kavinda picked up two wickets within the first ten overs as P De S Kularathne College was at 46 for the loss of two wickets by the 12th over. Kaveesha Thathsara stabilized the innings by scoring a responsible knock of 33 as wickets fell at the other end. P De S Kularathne College seemed in a spot of bother in the 33rd over as they were 6 down for 94. Vinod Kavinda did most of the damage picking up 5 wickets.

Tharindu Harshana and Lasin Wanindu overcame the pressure caused by the Thurstan College bowlers, as they guided P De S Kularathne College to 192 for the loss of 8 wickets. Tharindu Harshana top scored with 51 while Lasin Wanindu was unbeaten on 22.

Thurstan College was off to chase 193 with a watchful start scoring 23 runs in the first eight overs. Lasin Wanidu was on his ‘A’ game as he bamboozled the Thurstanite top order picking up three quick wickets as Thurstan College were stranded on 58 for the loss of 4 wickets by the 19th over. Rivindu Perera looked to take Thurstan College home but lost his wicket at 26 to some exceptional bowling by Kaveesh Thathsara.

The worries continued for Thurstan College with half the side back in the pavilion for 79 runs in the 29th over. Chathura Rukmal joined forces together with Danushka Madusanka picking up 2 wickets each as Thurstan College sunk deep to 100 for the loss of 9 wickets. The light did not favor the batsman as the umpires called off play due to bad light. P De S Kularatne College Ambalangoda won by Parabola method.

All round performance by Mahen Silva takes St. Sebastian’s College to quarter-finals

St Sebastian’s College Moratuwa hosted the first pre quarter final against De Mazenod College Kandana on their home turf on the 29th of August. The Sebastianites were put to bat first and posted a competitive score of 218 before they were bowled out in the 48th over of the innings. Mahen Silva top scored with 71 for St. Sebastian’s while Samindu Dineth picked up 4 wickets for 34 runs.

Chasing a total of 219 De Mazenod College was troubled early on as the Mahen Silva show cased his all-round skills this time with the ball picking up four wickets thanks to some valuable support from Weerasinghe and Deneth who picked up two wickets each. De Mazenod College, Kandana were eventually bowled out in the 26th over for 85.

St. Peter’s College will play Nalanda College this week and the winner will face St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa in the quarterfinal.
