Pulindu Kirella leads Richmond College to victory

St. Sylvester’s College traveled to Rathgama for their second round fixture against Richmond College Galle. Winning the toss Richmond College decided to field first.

Pulindu Kirella was absolutely brilliant with the ball, as he bamboozled the Sylvestrian batting line up to pick up seven wickets that helped Richmond College to restrict St. Sylvester’s to just 109. Maleesha Silva top scored for St. Sylvester’s College with 28.

Batting second Richmond College were no better with the bat as Dananjaya Senevirathne broke through the defense of the Richmondite batsman sending their top three back to the pavilion during the first 6 overs. Shashika Basnayake joined in to pick up two wickets leaving Richmond College at 75 for 7 in the 23rdover. Kavindu Nirmana was on 22 at that time, and when on to make a spirited 71 not out, guiding Richmond College to 132 for the loss of 8 wickets before they declared.

Batting for the second time the Sylvestrians were at 102 for the loss of nine wickets at stumps. Nalaka Ruwan and Hasindu Kavishka bagged 8 wickets between them.

St. Mary’s College win comprehensively

The Under 15 division one ‘Group T’ fixture between St. Mary’s Chilaw and Nalanda College Colombo was worked off at Pilawala, with Nalanda College winning the toss and deciding to field first.

The St. Mary’s College batsman looked good at the start as five of their batsman passed the 20 run mark, but unfortunately none of them were able to convert the starts into a big score. Savindu Prasad top scored with 38 for St. Mary’s College to take them to a score of 199.  For the Nalandian’s Kushmitha Silva and Ashen Weerapura grabbed two wickets each.

St. Mary’s who did not capitalize with the bat did very well with the ball giving the Nalanda batsman a tough time in the middle. By the 13th over Nalanda College were 4 wickets down for just 50 runs. The bowlers did not let the Nalandian’s get away, picking up 6 wickets for 71runs by the 19th over.

Sajitha Vithanage was alone warrior as he tried to hold the innings together with 41. But the Nalanda batting line up crumbled to be bowled out for 135 in the 35th over. St. Mary’s were at 28 for the loss of 2 wickets at stumps.
