Navy win by an innings; Kavikara spins Lankan CC to victory

Sri Lanka Cricket’s Tier B Premier League Tournament got off to another week. 

SL Navy SC VS SL Police SC

A splendid bowling performance by the Sailors helped them seal a convincing innings and 119 run victory against Police SC at Welisara. Police resumed play trailing by 187 runs with only five wickets in hand after they were forced to follow on. Samith Dushantha who was set on 37 lost his wicket early on in the day.

DSC_2703No 10 batsman Suwanji Madanayake fought back for the cops with an unbeaten 34 but he was left stranded as they were bowled out for just 161 runs. Ashan Ranasinghe was yet again the star with the ball with figures of 3 for 34. Ishan Abeysekara took 3 wickets and Dinushka Malan Chipped in with two wickets.

Early on, the Sailors posted 376 for their first innings with the help of a splendid knock by Kusal Edusuriya who scored 145 runs. In reply the Cops were bowled out for just 96 runs with Ashan Ranasinghe taking three wickets for Navy.

Lankan CC vs SL Air Force SC 

Naveen Kavikara’s ten wicket haul helped Lankan CC to register an innings and 5 run victory over Air Force at Panagoda. Air Force resumed play with their backs against the wall. They DSC_2894were two down for just 29 and in no time they were falling apart at 41 for 7. Hashan James and Shohan Rangika stung up a decent partnership to consolidate for the Airmen, but with the loss of those two wickets, the Air Force were cleaned up for just 80 in 32.5 overs. The star performer with the ball for the Lankans were left arm orthodox bowler Navin Kodikara who bagged five wickets in the second innings to go with his five-for in the first innings.

Early on, the Air Force could only make 230 for their first innings with Achira Eranga top scoring with 59 and Naveen Kodikara taking 5 for 63 for the Lankans. In reply, they made 315 with the help of splendid knock by Captain, all-rounder Rajeewa Weerasinghe who scored an unbeaten 77.

Kalutara Physical Culture Club VS Kurunegala Youth CC

Kalutara PCC registered a thrilling 5 wicket victory against Kurunegala YCC today at Kalutara. Kalutara resumed play with 69 runs to get and 6 wickets in tact. Set batsman Chathura Damith lost his wicket early on for 33 but Pathum Nissanka and Rasika Fernando carried their team over the line in a canter. Rasika was unbeaten on 47 with 2 sixes and 6 boundaries while Nissanka scored a patient knock of 27.

Earlier, Kurunegala were bowled out for 197 with Hashan Prabath top scoring on 82. Ramesh Selvaraj bagged a six for the boys from down south in the first innings. In reply Kalutara could only make 192 with Ruwantha Ekanayake taking a five-for for Kurunegala YCC. Pathum Nissanka top scored with 64 for Kalutara. Kurunegala batting collapsed in their second innings as they got cleaned up for just 151 which gave Kalutara a target of 157 in their second innings.
