The second week’s matches of the National Super League 4-Day Tournament 2024 continued for Day 2 today (26th January) at Pallekele and Hambantota.  

Team Dambulla took the upper hand against Team Colombo on Day 2 of their encounter played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. 

Team Dambulla resumed their first innings on Day 2 at 287/3, with Angelo Mathews (47*) and Pavan Rathnayake (31*) remaining unbeaten at the crease as overnight batters.  

The duo continued to pile on the runs, stitching together a 253-run stand for the 4th wicket as Team Dambulla posted a mammoth score – 530 on the board. Mathews was the top scorer as he made 146 runs off 275 balls with 17 fours and a six. Rathnayake brought up his 4th first-class century – amassing 130 runs off 220 balls with 12 fours and 4 sixes. 

In reply, Team Colombo posted 98 runs for 1 wicket at the close of play on Day 2. Dimuth Karunaratne (42*) and Kusal Mendis (29*) remained unbeaten at the crease at stumps.  

Team Jaffna continued their domination in their encounter against Team Kandy at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.  

After being 309/7 at the close of play on Day 1, Team Jaffna were bowled out for 346 in the morning session of Day 2. The overnight batter, Lahiru Madushanka, made 67 runs, while Chamika Karunaratne was the top wicket-taker for Team Kandy as he scalped 3 wickets for 51 runs. 

In reply, Team Kandy was knocked over for just 185 runs as wrist spinner Jeffrey Vandersay stood out with an excellent spell for Team Jaffna, claiming 4 wickets for 49 runs.
