Team Jaffna and Team Kandy managed to claim honors in their drawn encounters against Team Colombo and Team Galle respectively. in the first week of National Super League 4-Day Tournament 2024.

Team Jaffna managed to claim first innings points against Team Colombo in their drawn encounter ended today at SSC Grounds, Colombo.

Team Jaffna made a strong reply with the bat, posting 359 runs on the board against Team Colombo’s first innings total of 348. Nishan Madushka, Lahiru Madushanka and Jeffrey Vandersay were the star performers with the bat as they contributed with crucial half-centuries.

Isitha Wijesundara and Nisala Tharaka were the pick of the bowlers for Team Colombo as they shared 6 wickets between them. Team Colombo commenced their second innings 11 runs behind and posted 142/5 at the close of play on Day 4.

Himasha Liyanage, who scored a half-century in the first innings, notched up another half-century in the second innings for Team Colombo, while Ravindu Fernando starred with a 3-wicket haul for Team Jaffna.

Team Kandy came so close to snatch a win against Team Galle in their encounter, but had to be satisfied with a first innings win in the drawn encounter played today at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.

Team Galle were knocked over for 205 runs in response to Team Kandy’s first innings total – 365. Dinesh Chandimal and Pasindu Sooriyabandara chipped in with useful half-centuries. Chamika Gunasekara, Ashian Daniel and Lasith Embuldeniya picked up 3 wickets each for Team Kandy.

Team Kandy began their second innings 160 runs ahead and posted 190 runs for 5 wickets before declaring the innings. Udara, who hit a century in the first innings for Team Kandy, once again stood out with the bat, notching up a crucial half-century, while off-spinner Ramesh Mendis starred with the ball for Team Galle, picking up 3 scalps for 74 runs.

Chasing 351 runs to win, Team Galle posted 201 runs for 7 wickets at stumps on the fourth and final day. Oshada Fernando notched up a fighting half-century for Team Galle, while off-spinner Ashian Daniel picked up a five-wicket haul for Team Kandy.
