Sri Lankan number 8. Sudarshana Muthuthathri will represent Auckland Rugby in the Bayleys National Sevens tournament, set to take place this weekend (13th & 14th January) at Rotorua.

The Tuskers back rower departed the island for training following the start of the Dialog Rugby League and has been rewarded for his hard work, having been selected to represent Auckland Rugby.

The tournament is set to take place on the 13th and 14th of January at the Rotorua international Stadium.

The decision to leave the island and travel to New Zealand for training at Auckland has paid rich dividends as he will be the first Sri Lankan national to take part in this tournament.

Speaking to ThePapare.com, Muthuthanthri expressed his elation, saying, “Yes I’m extremely satisfied and happy to get the opportunity and I will surely make full use out of the chance”

Furthermore, he spoke on the hard work put into this effort, “I have been working very hard for the past one month or so and this is my reward for all the hard work”

Auckland have selected two strong sides for the tournament as both the men and women take the field aiming to put an end to defending champions Counties Manukau dominance.

The Auckland men’s team will be led by Rocky Khan who has extensive sevens experience, having played in several tournaments for the New Zealand national side throughout his career.

All Blacks Sevens star Salesi Rayasi will be another star lining up alongside Muthu as Rayasi is just coming off an impressive showing in the latest round of the World Sevens Series.
