Kandy SC make the trip down to Welisara to take on second placed Navy SC in a crunch encounter, as Navy seek to strengthen their hold on second place in the league. Meanwhile, Havelock hosts CR for the Mathysz trophy under lights.

Game one:
Navy SC v Kandy SC at Welisara,
Saturday, (27th January) 3.40pm.

Both teams head into this game with two crucial wins under their belts from last week and will surely look to keep the momentum going.

This will be yet another test for the high-flying Kandy outfit as they come down to the stronghold of Navy, however, the home side will know they will have to be up to their best if they are to dent Kandy’s unbeaten run.

The Navy forward pack will surely look to bring their ‘A’ game and if Thilina Weerasinghe manages to have another superior day at the office, the hosts will have a chance of an upset as they aim to lock down second place.

For Kandy, their dazzling back line will hit the ground running. The whole team will be hoping to keep their unbeaten tag alive and give legend Fazil Marija a fitting send off in what would be the final time he faces Navy at Welisara.

Yet again, Kandy come in as firm favourites but if there is a team that could upset them, it is Navy, particularly as the Sailors will be on their home turf.

Game two:
Police SC v Air Force SC at Police Park,
Saturday, (27th January) 4.00pm

After a draw against the Havies for Police and a win against Army for Air Force last weekend, the fight for the wooden spoon continues as the two teams languishing at the bottom of the table take on each other.

Both teams have upped their performance in the dying stages of the second round and are surely aiming to evade the wooden spoon.

Rasith Silva put in a stellar performance in the drawn game last weekend and will be aiming to replicate it as he is set to lead the Police outfit.

Airmen Ishara Madushan and Gayantha Iddamalgoda were outstanding in their win against Army but the Air Force lads will know they need to be consistent if they want to take anything away from Police Park.

Picking a winner between the two seems a tough task but many would their money on Air Force after their inspiring performance last weekend.

Game three:
Havelock SC v CR & FC at Havelock Park,
Saturday, (27th January) 6.30pm

Havelock hosts CR as both teams come in after denting results last weekend. The Park boys were held to a draw at Police Park in which they lost their second place to Navy Sport Club, a result that will sting.

Injuries have hampered the Havies as both Niroshan Fernando and Dulaj Perera were not present in their match last weekend. Creativity has been an issue for the Park club this season, having not had a settled five-eighth.

CR lacked potency in attack as they paid the price down at Welisara. If they are to have any chance of turning around the 5 point deficit from their first round defeat, the likes of Tarinda Ratwatte and Kavindu,Perera will surely need to put their hands up as they square off for the Mathysz trophy.

Havelock Sports Club come in as slight favourites, however, a smarting CR outfit will want to get back to winning ways after last weekend’s embarrassment.

Game four:
Army SC v CH & FC at Havelock Park,
Sunday, (28th January) 3.45pm

Army Sports Club have not tasted victory since the final game of the first round as a drastic drop in form has seen them slump to 6th place.

On the other hand, CH & FC have put on a much better show in the second round, even going on to push Kandy to the brink up in Nittawela in a defeat -which they could take many positives out of-.

Army definitely know they have a huge task ahead of themselves. The likes of Ashan Bandara and Mohomad Rizvi have not been able to direct their team around the park resulting in a drastic dip in form.

Not only the halfbacks, but the whole team will need to up their performance this weekend if they are to stand a chance against this highflying CH outfit.

The rapid rise of CH is seemingly promising, however, Laga and Co. cannot rest on their laurels in the uncertain game of rugby.

The whole team has not shied away from their duties as the season progressed and you can be assured of yet another performance filled with some spunk making them heavy favourites to clinch this one.
