Two games each in group ‘B’ and group ‘C’ were played in the SLC Major Club T20 Tournament 2024 at Surrey Village, Maggona and SSC grounds today (15th May).

In a thrilling day of cricket, Moors SC and BRC emerged victorious in their Group ‘B’ clashes. Meanwhile, in the battles of Group ‘C’, Tamil Union and Ace Capital CC triumphed in their respective encounters.

Mohamed Shiraz and Ravija Sandaruwan starred with the ball and the bat for BRC in their win against Badureliya SC. Shiraz ended up with figures of 3 for 15, and Ravija Sandaruwan guided BRC safely home in their run-chase by scoring a composed 40 runs.

Theesan Vithusan dismantled the Negombo CC batting line-up by grabbing 5 wickets, giving away just 20 runs. Vithusan, with his career-best performance, restricted Negombo CC from chasing down the total set by the Tamil Union batters. Wicketkeeper-batter Sithara Hapuhinna top-scored for the victorious Tamil Union side with 35 runs under tricky conditions at Maggona.

Moors SC continued their winning streak with a convincing victory over Chilaw Marians CC today. Janishka Perera and Sohan De Livera showcased their T20 batting repertoire, ensuring Moors SC faced no trouble in their run-chase. Perera remained unbeaten at 49 while De Livera unfortunately was dismissed at 47. Tilanga Udeeshana was brilliant with the ball for Moors SC, picking up 4 wickets for just 16 runs.

Ace Capital CC outclassed one of the favorites of the tournament by beating SSC by 46 runs comprehensively. Pawantha Weerasinghe and Thanuka Dabare set the tone for Ace Capital in their innings. Both scored 60 and 40 respectively to take Ace Capital past the 170 mark. In reply, SSC batters were put to the test with some economical and accurate bowling from the Ace Capital bowlers. Eventually, SSC fell 47 runs short of the target set by Ace Capital CC.
